Mizin Shin awarded the 2022 AHL –Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Project Grant
AHL Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting Korean artists, is proud to announce that artist Mizin Shin has been awarded the 2022 AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Project Grant. This grant aims to nurture and assist talented visual artists of all career stages in realizing forthcoming projects while building their capacity to sustain productive long-term careers.
Born and raised in South Korea, Mizin Shin is a US-based visual artist. Leading numerous printmaking workshops with a number of art organizations, Shin focuses on both traditional and contemporary printmaking practices to promote a multidisciplinary approach to the medium. Shin’s work has been shown nationally and internationally at institutions across the United States, Belgium, Spain, the UK, India, and South Korea in exhibitions including Multiple Ones: Contemporary Perspectives in Printmedia, International Print Center New York: New Prints, Wheaton Biennial: Printmaking Reimagined, and Screenprint Biennial. She is a 2022 fellow of the Civitella Ranieri artist residency in Italy. Shin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art & Art History at University of Rochester. She is also a co-founder of Mirabo Press in Buffalo, NY, and a board member of Mid America Print Council.
Funds from the AHL – Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Project Grant will go towards Mizin Shin’s upcoming solo exhibition titled Displacement: Reclaiming Place, Space, and Memory and workshop series at Buffalo Arts Studio from September 23—November 5, 2022. The series, in partnership with grassroots activist groups, promotes the creation of new work, educates emerging artists, and fosters critical dialogue about transnationalism, arts access, and social justice. Events will engage diverse communities while making contemporary discourse more accessible through compelling aesthetic forms.
The Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation, a New Jersey-based charity founded by Andrew Choi, founder of Bulbrite Industries, Inc., has been sponsoring organizations active in the Korean community in the New York Tri-State Area since 2014. The AHL-Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation Project Grant was established in 2015 and it is administered by the AHL Foundation with the full support of the Andrew & Barbara Choi Family Foundation.
